Many actions performed during an engineering assignment are systematic, as enforced by the CAE software used, or as required by the regulating codes and regulations.

At DOCAN, we are always looking for opportunities to improve the reliability and ease of our service, which includes developing automated systems where possible.

ABAQUS CAE software operates using a scripting interface which is an extension of Python. As such, all actions performed in this software can be reduced down to a file of text that is interpreted by the software to perform and show the requested action.

With careful manipulation of this text, the user can command ABAQUS to perform any available action and utilizing programming techniques and the provided graphical user interface (GUI) tools available in ABAQUS, the act of manipulating this instructional text can become simple and well-controlled.

Developing plugins for ABAQUS

DOCAN have developed a suite of GUIs as a part of DSET (DOCAN Stress Engineering Tools) designed to perform preprocessing and postprocessing actions based on a limited selection of user inputs.

This ensures efficient and quality-controlled modelling methods and code assessments including tools that generate material data per ASME VIII Div II 3-D.3 (in progress), perform local failure assessments to ASME VIII Div 2 and API 579, and even assist in the determination of fatigue life utilisation.
