Like many companies, we grow and evolve. As this happens, maintaining consistency, customer confidence, and operational effectiveness becomes essential. How do you monitor performance, introduce real improvements, optimise processes, and manage issues when they arise?

Building Consistency in Engineering Consultancy

DOCAN Ltd is an Engineering Consultants that regularly support complex engineering challenges. Technically, every programme and project can differ, but our aim is to run them all with the same consistent, controlled approach.

Our business started in 2017, and through experience gained in other organisations, we noticed something important. Some companies, large or small, operated with highly effective systems, while others were in chaos. What the best companies had in common was organisation, structure, and consistency at every stage of the business, from outreach to delivery and payment.

So when we launched in 2017, we prioritised standardising our methods, starting with a formal document control system.

Developing Our Quality Management System

When COVID emerged, we also set our sights on attracting larger clients and delivering larger projects. During this period, our ambition was to formally develop a complete quality management system (QMS) that would define how we operate across the company.

In 2020, we employed an ISO Consultant to help us build our QMS. Later that year, we achieved ISO 9001:2015 accreditation through BSI, the British Standards Institute.

Fast forward to 2025, and we have successfully maintained and optimised our QMS, passed several BSI audits, and retained full control of every aspect of our business. Our ISO 9001:2015 accreditation remains fully in place.

Looking Ahead to ISO 9001:2026

With 2026 approaching, and nearly 10 years since founding the business, the ISO 9001 standard is evolving. The updated ISO 9001:2026 version is expected later that year.

A key addition to the standard will be climate change, reflecting the increasing global importance of sustainability.

According to BSI, the updated 2026 standard will help businesses:

  • Align quality goals with long-term strategy

  • Improve customer satisfaction through consistent delivery

  • Reduce compliance risk

  • Strengthen competitiveness

  • Build reputation

  • Increase efficiency and unlock new opportunities

  • Integrate digital and AI tools into QMS frameworks
